WELCOME TO THE RUSHMORE INN
The bed and breakfast was hidden in the hills of West Virginia. Wary guests wondered how it could stay in business at such a creepy, remote location. Especially with its bizarre, presidential decor and eccentric proprietor.
ONCE YOU CHECK IN...
When the event hotel for the national Iron Woman triathlon accidentally overbooked, competitor Maria was forced to stay at the Rushmore. But after checking into her room, she quickly realized she wasn't alone. First her suitcase wasn't where she put it. Then her cell phone was moved. Finally, she heard an odd creaking under the bed. Confusion quickly turned to fear, and fear to hysteria when she discovered the front door was barred and the windows were bricked over. There was no way out.
...YOU'LL BE DYING TO LEAVE
One year later, four new female athletes have become guests of the Inn. Will they escape the horrors within its walls? Or will they join the many others who have died there, in ways too terrible to imagine?
ENDURANCE by Jack Kilborn
Are you brave enough to finish?
A Word of Warning
Originally scheduled to be released in paperback in 2010, the publisher read the final version of the manuscript and refused to release it.
This is a disturbing, terrifying book. You may think you're brave enough to handle it. But you're probably not...

I am so glad I found Jack Kilborn/J.A. Koranth. His books are really fantastic. Super nightmare inducing. I love it. I love all of them I have read so far. My first was Trapped, my favorite, but they have all been great. The imagination this guy has for the horribly terrifyingly painfully disturbing images is top notch. Oh, if you don't like horror, if you don't like pain and suffering and torture, you should not read these books. They are wonderfully intense and I can't get enough of them.Endurance is about a little, creepy bed and breakfast in the middle of nowhere. Every year a bunch of female athletes come to compete in a triathlon, but not everyone makes it to the event. Seems the hotel they booked rooms for is magically booked up and the only place to stay is at the Rushmore Inn.
The books starts off with one lady and a bit of what happens to her when she is forced to spend the night there. Then we cut to a year later when a new batch of athletes comes to town. You have a great group of people who have to deal with a whole host of terrifying situations. I mean really, I don't know how some of them made it, or made it as long as they did. One thing is for certain, you will check in but you might not check out.
The proprietor of the Rushmore Inn is...she is something. Her and her family have royal blood and she is obsessed with the Presidents. The images the author creates? They are fantastically horrifying. I love this stuff. It is all about the pain and suffering and just worse than the worst case scenario you could come up with. I tell you what, this story is fantastic. I loved every minute of it. I loved how we got all the different point of views, the runners, the reporter guy, the family, glimpses of what happened to the girl from the beginning, all of it. This book is so great, but you really have to want this kind of read. If you are squeamish it might not be for you. Or it might give you nightmares. For real. It was so much fun!!!

Endurance (Audible Audio Edition) Jack Kilborn Christopher Lane Brilliance Audio Books Reviews
As advertised, Endurance is a true Novel of Terror. It is about enduring terror, the characters and the reader. This story unfolds layer by creepy layer, always adding to the characterization, the plot, the terror. The content, while reaching impressive levels of the horrific, is not written in the graphic style of extreme horror or splatterpunk. Nevertheless, the imagery is such that the book reads like a movie playing behind my eyes. A horror movie. A terror filled horror movie with horrific things. The kind where you want to shout at the characters because there is just enough foreshadowing that you know something really bad is about to happen, like when horror movie scary point music suddenly begins to play!
But, I digress.
The plot twists in Endurance are brutal. The characters are entirely too real, some too likeable for Konrath to do them this way, but he does! Then, if you survive the tension and terror, you get to the unexpected ending. The ending makes you want to hate the author a little. And it makes you want to get clean. And find mind bleach.
Not for the squeamish.
First off, I really enjoyed the plot to the story. It was quite intriguing and adding the presidential element to it was a great idea!
My biggest dissappointment in the book was the lack of proof reading. While it wasn't terrible, there were many points in the book where a letter was forgot, he/she was mixed up, or the wrong word used entirely. While it didn't happen often enough to warrant me giving up on the book, it did warrant a loss in a star rating. NOTE TO SELF PUBLISHERS if you need someone to proofread your book, send it my way. I'd be more than happy to to do it, free of charge. I read 3-4 books a week.
Besides that, the book was quite intriguing. It didn't stick to a lot of normal cliche's and left you wondering what was going to happen next. The transition between stories as the intense moments were coming to a close was done in a perfect way. Kudos to the author.
One of the most twisted, plot bending tale I have ever read. It begins with what seems to be several unrelated, simple tales; something quick and easy no problems.
But quickly things take several turns in different directions to lead you into one heart stopping, can't believe what is happening tale after another.
People somehow get sent to stay at a bread and Breakfast inn with some very strange staff members; all sons of a woman who had taken a very bad medicine Thalidomide will she was pregnant.
This particular medicine had a habit of harming the unborn fetus into monsters; misshapen, mentally retarded creatures that had no idea what was right or wrong. a
Elinor Roosevelt (the mother of countless of these poor creatures) kills some outright; and uses others for cruel attempts to keep her brood alive.
The family destroyed more than 500 people in various sadistic methods to stay alive. .Enter the ones who fight back and refuse to give in to the many attempts to kill them.
As more of the monsters are introduced into the plot it gets more horrifying and demented. How. Will the heroes survive? Can any of this be real, will the horrific and deadly monsters win in the end?
Jack Kilborn will.not let you rest till the; and then you may not be able to. Read this tale to the end if you are brave enough
